Oil painting from an old photo! HELP!?
Ive been trying to finish an oil painting of my grandpa and me when I was 5-6 (Im 23 now). The picture is a little yellow and the faces are a little flat (we are in profile kissing)..in retrospect probably not the easiest photo to choose from, but Im very new at this! So, are there any ideas, tips, etc that can help me learn how to make an oil painting from an old photo look more realistic/better? Thanks so much!!
Yes I am painting it myself. Ive already started but I dont like the way the colors translate onto the canvas.
The short cut to that would be to edit image in photo editors to clear up color, and then send image into a print shop where they place that image onto a Canvas in a painting format,

If you are planning to paint yourself, you want to figure out size of canvas you wanted in ratio to the photo, what medium , in this case you say oil, have canvas pretreated with gesso or recover with fresh layer of white, you can test different ideas, as to how you want to transfer image onto canvas, by drawing outlines freehand, use a projector , manual overhead or digital , have all your colours, thinners and brushes ready, and clean up accessories,
Search for some tutorials online, or check your local library for books to help as guidelines,
